DMP Commissioner seeks information on who is extorting money

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Sheikh Md. Sajjat ​​Ali has described extortion as a social problem. He urged the public to provide information to the police about where extortion is taking place and who is doing it.

The DMP Commissioner said, “Every organ of society should come forward to combat extortion. Provide us with information about where extortion is taking place and who is doing it. The prices of daily necessities are increasing due to extortion, causing suffering to the common people. We have a lot of responsibility to prevent extortion. We are preparing an updated list of extortionists. In line with this, the process of taking action against extortionists is ongoingHe said these things at a meeting organized by the ‘police, students, public and respected citizens’ at the Institution of Diploma Engineers Bangladesh (IDEB) building in the capital’s Ramna police station area on Saturday morning.

Stating that the number of robberies has increased significantly, the DMP Commissioner said, ‘The reports I have show that the number of robberies has increased significantly. Most of the robberies are mobile phones. Passengers sit in buses, snatch them and run away. Mobile phones are being robbed by showing sharp weapons.’ He said, ‘Drugs are spreading in every nook and cranny of the society. Those who are drug addicts, when they lack money, they again get involved in robbery.’

Regarding the case records of the officers-in-charge (OC) of various police stations, the DMP Commissioner said, ‘I will take responsibility for the cases as many as I want; but no citizen, no person should come and say, “We did not take the case.” “Such incidents should not happen.”.

Regarding the traffic jam, the police officer requested the sidewalk hawkers to be restrained. He said, ‘My request is that the hawkers stay on the sidewalks in a restrained manner. Do not disturb my traffic in any way. If you take over everything, then those who live in the city will not even get a chance to walk. My traffic will be disturbed, I cannot give that much concession.’

Noting that meetings and gatherings on the road create traffic jams and increase the suffering of the people, Md. Sajjat ​​Ali said, ‘Various political,  or religious events should be held at a specific place.’
